Toshiaki Yamada is a partner of the firm. Mr. Yamada’s practice focuses on general corporate, litigation and arbitration, real estate, labor, and intellectual property.

Mr. Yamada has successfully defended a former top executive of a bankrupt major Japanese bank in civil and criminal actions under the Securities Exchange Act (currently Financial Instruments and Exchange Act). He has represented construction companies and international trade companies in various dispute resolution procedures involving construction projects and real estate development projects in Japan and overseas. Mr. Yamada has also represented many corporate clients in various industries in labor lawsuits and in lawsuits involving non-competition obligations.

He regularly advises corporate clients, both Japanese and foreign, in such industries as international trade, food-service industries, construction and software development, as well as academic and educational institutions.

Mr. Yamada served as a member of Kanto Local Labor Relations Commission for Mariners and Kanto Regional Transport Council of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism.

Mr. Yamada was admitted to the Bar of Japan in 1988, and the Bar of the State of New York in 1994. He joined Ishii Law Office in 1988 and became a partner in 1998. He received an LL.M. degree from Duke Law School in 1993 and an LL.B. degree from The University of Tokyo in 1986. He worked at Hale and Dorr (currently Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr) in Boston from 1993 to 1994. Mr. Yamada is a member of the Daini Tokyo Bar Association, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations, and the New York State Bar Association. He speaks Japanese and English.
